Dementia Friendly Wrexham Appoints New Chairperson

We are pleased to announce that our dementia-friendly steering group has appointed a new Chairperson to lead on our ongoing activities in Wrexham.

Heather Collin has been an integral part of the group for the last four years and has both personal and professional experience of caring for people living with dementia. This includes her community work with Home Instead and setting up and running the dementia-friendly music group, Singing for the Brain.

Heather will be working closely with the local authority, businesses, community groups and organisations to expand on the work previously achieved by the group – with the aim of encouraging more people across the borough to achieve dementia-friendly status as part of the North Wales Collaborative scheme.

The steering group provides signposting information, run events and information sessions, fundraising activities and supports a number of dementia-friendly groups, all of which will help those living with dementia feel supported, involved and safe in community life.

We would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Lynda Hall, our previous chairperson who has done so much for the dementia community in Wrexham in recent years.

Lynda has stepped down due to personal commitments but will still be involved in the group as a dementia ambassador.
